Wastewater treatment is a highly energy intensive process. It involves pumping vast volumes of air through effluent to supply oxygen to the bacteria that treat it. Close to one percent of all the energy generated in the UK goes toward wastewater treatment. Also electricity represents a significant operational cost for water utility firms.

Lontra’s trial

The demonstration by Severn Trent Water showed that Lontra’s Blade Compressor® used 20% less energy than traditional technologies. Therefore the opportunity to save £1.8M in operational costs if rolled out across all its sites.

The first licensee of Lontra’s technology is Sulzer. A global leader in pumping equipment, seeing aeration equipment incorporating Lontra’s technology sold in 150 countries.
