Case study: Steve Lindsey, CEO of Lontra, discusses the details of his technology firm’s IP protection, the licensing arrangement that followed, and what other scale-ups should consider when doing the same.

Lontra’s first European patent for our novel air compressor technology (the Blade Compressor®) was granted back in 2003. Since then we’ve worked with such companies as the Carbon Trust, which eventually helped us broker a deal with water firm Severn Trent to test the technology. Following a successful trial in 2012, Severn Trent agreed to keep the prototype running and even credited our technology with a potential 3 per cent reduction in their electricity bill in their annual results. This endorsement enabled us to sign a global licensing deal with worldwide manufacturer, Sulzer.

The article looks at the rise in IP theft and its effect on thousands of UK scale-ups, discussing intellectual property, its value and how businesses can protect themselves. Followed by the in-depth case study with commentary from Lontra CEO, Steve Lindsey. You can read the article by Growth Business here.
